Turtle Mat is committed to safeguarding the privacy of our customers and users.

Kleen-Tex Industries Ltd. trading as Turtle Mat operates this store and website, including all related information, content, features, tools, products and services, in order to provide you, the customer, with a curated shopping experience (the "Services"). Turtle Mat is powered by Shopify, which enables us to provide the Services to you. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and disclose your personal information when you visit, use, or make a purchase or other transaction using the Services or otherwise communicate with us. If there is a conflict between our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy, this Privacy Policy controls with respect to the collection, processing, and disclosure of your personal information.

This Privacy Policy may need to be updated from time-to-time. We'llnotify you of any signifcant changes, but you're welcome to come back and check it whenever you wish.

We are Kleen-Tex Industries Ltd. (registered in England and Wales, company number 03847996) We are also known as the ‘Data Controller'. We sell a large collection of dirt-trapping indoor and outdoor mats through catalogues, advertisements, on the internet and through email marketing. On what basis are we collecting and processing your data?

Data protection laws set out a number of legal bases a company may collect and your process your personal data, these are the bases on which we collect and process your data:

Consent – we collect your consent to contact you by email or SMS with offers and news (email marketing)

When collecting your personal data, we'll refer you to this Privacy Policy and/or our Mobile Terms of Service so you can see why data is collected.

Contractual obligations - in certain circumstances, we need your personal data to fulfil our contractual obligations with you

For example, if you order an item from us for delivery, we'll collect your address to deliver you purchase and pass them to our courier.

We also combine the shopping history of many customers to identify trends and ensure we can keep up with demand, or develop new products/services.

The information we collect and how we use it

n order to fulfil your order (for example - for the purchase of a Cape Cod outdoor mat), we need to know certain personal information collected at time of order.

The information we hold will consist of but not be limited to the following:

Title; Name; Address; Mailing Preference flags such as Do not mail, or Do not email; Products purchased from us in the past including their cost; Telephone number if offered to us (this will only be used for matters relating to your order unless you opt-in to receive SMS marketing from us); email address if offered; Where we believe you heard about us from. Credit card details are encrypted after data entry and are not stored on our systems once used. We do not collect any Special Category Data (sensitive data) such as race, religion, biometrics or health data.

It is our policy that your information is private and confidential. Accordingly, the personal information you provide to us is stored securely, and is accessible only by designated staff and third parties.

We also collect some data because it is necessary for the pursuit of our legitimate interests. Our legitimate interests are set out below.

It's always your choice whether you share such details with us and you always have the right to object to certain types of use by via email to info@turtlemat.co.uk, calling us, by post or other means convenient to you i.e social media.

Remember, if you choose not to share your personal data with us, or refuse certain contact permissions, we might not be able to provide some services you've asked for.

For example, if you've asked us to let you know when an item comes back into stock, we can't do that if you have exercised your right to erasure ‘the right to be forgotten' as we will have forgotten this request.

 

Relationship with Shopify

The Services are hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal information about your access to and use of the Services in order to provide and improve the Services for you. Information you submit to the Services will be transmitted to and shared with Shopify as well as third parties that may be located in countries other than where you reside, in order to provide and improve the Services for you. In addition, to help protect, grow, and improve our business, we use certain Shopify enhanced features that incorporate data and information obtained from your interactions with our Store, along with other merchants and with Shopify. To provide these enhanced features, Shopify may make use of personal information collected about your interactions with our store, along with other merchants, and with Shopify. In these circumstances, Shopify is responsible for the processing of your personal information, including for responding to your requests to exercise your rights over use of your personal information for these purposes. Children's Data

The Services are not intended to be used by children, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information about children under the age of majority in your jurisdiction. Please note that we may transfer, store and process your personal information outside the country you live in.

We will contact you by mail with offers and products we believe will be of interest to you. You have the right to object to this at any time.

We will also contact you by email if you have consented to do so by ticking an opt-in box or providing your email address for this purpose.

We will also contact you by SMS if you have consented to do so by ticking an opt-in box or providing your mobile telephone number for this purpose.

We will also use your details, buying and browsing behaviours to help us tailor and improve our offering and services to you, this may be in the form of automated decision-making (profiling) and online advertising.

i.e. using algorithms based on your previous browsing history on our site to show you relevant products to the last ones you viewed.

Online advertising

We work with social media platforms and digital advertising platforms to show you advertising for our products on other websites and social media platforms. For instance, if you show an interest or buy a product on our Site, we may advertise that or other products we think may be of interest and you may see them on other websites and on your Facebook or other social media feeds. To do this we will share information with our social medial and digital advertising partners about you, your purchase and interests for instance, so they can better understand what you are interested in, and so we can deliver ads to you which we think might be of interest and measure and optimise those ads. We may share customer and Site visitor information as described above which may be locally hashed, with third parties, or we may incorporate a third party pixel onto our site, or otherwise share information with third parties, and from these data sets third parties are able to identify common data. We also work with social media companies, like Facebook, as described above, to deliver our ads to a "Lookalike Audience".  Our partners may also retain and use this information to help other companies, unrelated to us, to show you ads online. How can you stop the use of your personal data for direct marketing?

There are several ways you can stop direct marketing communications from us:

How we protect your personal data?

Security and Retention of Your Information

We treat your data with the utmost care and take all appropriate steps to protect it. We secure access to all transactional areas of our websites and apps using ‘https' technology.

Access to your personal data is password-protected, and sensitive data (such as payment card information) is secured by SSL encryption and in-line with PCI DSS compliance.

Please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee "perfect security." In addition, any information you send to us may not be secure while in transit. We recommend that you do not use unsecure channels to communicate sensitive or confidential information to us.

How long will we keep your personal data?

Whenever we collect or process your personal data, we'll only keep it for as long as is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.

As a retailer, we are fortunate to have loyal customers who purchase our products over many years and also products that not only are guaranteed for 5 years but often last a lot longer – up to 20 years. With this in mind and to serve our customers in the best possible manner and to continue to inform them about new products and services we have decided to retain customer data for 25 years after the last purchase date.

At the end of that retention period, your data will either be deleted completely or anonymised, for example by aggregation with other data so that it can be used in a non-identifiable way for statistical analysis and business planning.

 

Who do we share your personal data with?

We sometimes share your personal data with trusted third parties.

For example, delivery couriers, for fraud management, to handle complaints and to help Turtle Mat personalise our offers to you.

  • We work closely with them to ensure that your privacy is respected and protected at all times

These requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis and take the privacy of our customers into consideration

What are your rights over your personal data?

You have the right to request:

  • Access to the personal data we hold about you, free of charge in most cases
  • The correction of your personal data when incorrect, out of date or incomplete
  • That we stop using your personal data for direct marketing (either through specific channels, or all channels)

  • To object to any decision made based solely on automatic processing of your data (i.e. where no human has yet reviewed the outcome and criteria for the decision)

Your right to withdraw consent
